Two quotes, each painting a different picture of the thing that makes the world go round.

He’s not perfect. You aren’t either, and the two of you will never be perfect. But if he can make you laugh at least once, causes you to think twice, and if he admits to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can. He isn’t going to quote poetry, he’s not thinking about you every moment, but he will give you a part of him that he knows you could break. Don’t hurt him, don’t change him, and don’t expect more than he can give. Don’t analyze. Smile when he makes you happy, yell when he makes you mad, and miss him when he’s not there. Love hard when there is love to be had. Because perfect guys don’t exist, but there’s always one guy that is perfect for you.

There’s a reason I said I’d be happy alone. It wasn’t ‘cause I thought I’d be happy alone. It was because I thought if I loved someone and then it fell apart, I might not make it. It’s easier to be alone. Because what if you learn that you need love and then you don’t have it? What if you like it and lean on it? What if you shape your life around it and then it falls apart? Can you even survive that kind of pain? Losing love is like organ damage. It’s like dying. The only difference is death ends. This? It could go on forever.

-from Grey’s Anatomy

Yep, it goes on forever, and when you think you’re past it, you’ve moved on, it comes back to haunt you. You see a name, an object, a place, a smile, a dream. Then all the pillars of self-defense you’ve carefully built crumble to dust. And those memories, they come gushing out from within and you feel suffocated. You gasp for air, clutching at anything that’d make you live a little better a little longer. And then, your wildly swinging hands finally find something to cling on to, just for a while. Then slowly, but surely, everything seems fine after that, and you resume your life.

At least, until the next relapse.
